PhotoHunt - Low rider

This is one of the Volkswagen beetles that was on display in Frederick as part of the City's First Saturday event. It sits low while parked and makes one wonder how it avoids major damage while in motion. The answer is that underneath is an air ride suspension that raises the car for driving. The chasis below was also on display showing the cylinders that raised the car for driving. Check back August 11 for more images of the VWs in My World Tuesday.

Window Views - Doggies in the window

Doggies in the window

During a walk through downtown Frederick for "Dog Days of August", I spotted these doggies in the window of The Little Pottery Shop. The owner is also a potter and her shop contains her work as well as that of other potters. The shop has a variety of pottery items, from elegant to whimsical. (The ones shown are by other artists.)

My World Tuesday - Dog days of August

The Downtown Frederick Partnership sponsors a program called First Saturday. The theme for August was "Dog Days of Summer". A Vintage Volkswagen club was also showing their beetles and busses. Grandson Chris and I went to see the cars and pups and take a few pictures (Photos of the VWs next week).

Registering for the contest

Part of of the celebration was a dog costume contest. Registration was at Two Paws Up, a downtown pet store. The paw prints led the pups to the spots. Winners were to be announced at the amphitheater by the creek at 8:00 PM. (Chris and I opted to leave early and join Marianne and Michael for dinner at home.)

There were lots of watering bowls for the dogs. This one was in front of Two Paws Up. There are plenty of places downtown for the two-legged animals to get food and drink!

Historic Bridges - Reich's Ford Road

South approach

Reich's Ford Road Bridge was built in 1905 by the York Bridge Company. It spans Bush Creek in southern Frederick County. It is a gusset plate pony truss bridge. York Bridge Company built several bridges of this type in Frederick County in the early 1900's.

Odd shots - More than his share of the road

I got behind this farm machine on my way home a few days ago. It cuts hay and drops it in a row between the wheels for a bailer to pickup later.

PhotoHunt - Entertainment

The entertainment hit this year for our grandsons has been Greenbrier Lake. These two are more likely to be found playing video games than engaging in outdoor activities, though last year they brought their bikes and did some riding in nearby parks. Yesterday was our third visit but we got rained out after a short swim. The park rangers cleared the lake after thunder was heard. While we waited for the all clear, the sprinkles turned into a downpour. We gave up on cooking hotdogs and hamburgers and came home.
