Our World - Still in the kitchen

April 16 - The coffee pot is the last to leave the kitchen.

April 17 - Range and cabinets gone (Range will return).

April 24 - New cabinets arrive.

April 30 - Cabinets are in place. Countertop folks were here to measure for exact fit. It will be about a week before thay return with the countertops. There is still some work to do on the cabinets, the pantry to finish, and the electricians will return to add the switches, lights and outlets. And the painter will be busy. Then the tile guy will do the backsplash above the countertops.

Our World - Kitchen remodeling part 3

The ceiling in the garage was braced to replace a few termite damaged wood in the kitchen wall.

Part of a wall was removed to open up the kitchen for more light from the dining room.

The electricians ran wires for new lightng and outlets. And marked the ceiling where new recessed lighting will go. That is the original single hanging light.

Our World - Kitchen remodeling part 2

Olga and Dan were nearly finished when I took this shot. The moldy drywall was already bagged. Insulation was removed just in case any mold was hiding. Below they are removing debris from the floor. Paul Davis Restorations specializes in fire, water and storm damage in addition to mold. Thanks to Olga, Dan and Jerry for solving our mold problem quickly.
.

The termite damage is over the door and a six foot section of the wall. This damage is being repaired by Brian and his crew. (The termites were treated years ago and have not returned. There had been no reason to tear into the wall until now.)

Light & Shadows - Hosta, early morning

Our World - Kitchen remodeling part 1

Is your pantry bare?

Are your pots, pans, dishes and other kitchen stuff on the guest bedroom floor? That's the state in OUR world for the next several weeks. We spent the weekend (and a few days before!) packing up kitchen stuff in anticipation of the start of a total remodel of our kitchen. The previous few months were spent making the choices of cabinets, countertops, flooring, etc. (The appliances are staying) Brian's crew from Reality Builders arrived early Tuesday and went right to work.

Appliances were moved out of the kitchen and cabinets removed.

The paneling removal started and a problem was discovered: MOLD! All work stopped and an expert was called. Jerry arrived and declared it mold and scheduled his crew to deal with the mold on Wednesday.

Jerry, Olga and Dan sealed off the kitchen and hooked up a blower to vent any loose mold to the outside. This kept the mold out of our lungs, but disturb sleep (think leaving your vacuum cleaner running outside you bedroom all night). (to be continued)

Our World - First Saturday

The first Saturday in April was sunny and windy with flowers in bloom around Frederick.

Stores were well supplied with goodies for Easter

including some unusual works of art.

Studio 6 entertained us along with other groups and DJ's scattered through out the downtown area.

And tables were set for those who wanted an evening meal.

PhotoHunt - Awesome blossoms

Our cherry trees have really been awesome this year. They do not produce fruit, but do give us a couple of weeks of pink.
