Window Views - New visitor center
An 110 year-old warehouse is being renovated to become the new Frederick County Visitor Center. The building was part of the cannery (across the street) that is also being renovated for office and retail space. In March (above), the outer layer had been peeled off. By March windows had been reopen and brick replace. And now in July (last three images), new windows and roof are in place and work is proceeding inside. The new center is scheduled to open early in 2011.

My World - At the lake
With two of our grandsons (the teenagers seen in the images) visiting, we returned last week to Greenbrier State Park for swimming and picnicking. Greenbrier is one of four Maryland state parks along South Mountain, a ridge that runs from Pennsylvania to Virginia. The park has a 44 acre lake, picnic areas, camping and hiking trails. Here are some shots from our two visits. Other Greenbrier images are on my posts for Sky Watch and Reflections.

Window Views - New school building
The new Frederick County Public School offices are receiving the final touches and staff are starting to move in this month. I have posted shots of the work in progress several times (My World - Construction and Window Views - Window work). Here are some views taken last week.

My World - Small flyers
Two hummingbirds have been visiting our feeder for a while; zipping in quickly for a sip or two and then disappearing. Sometimes both would feed and at other times they would chase each other away. Occasionally, they would feed when we were sitting on the bench near the feeder. On Friday this one spent over a minute feeding at the Verbena flowers on the patio, giving me time to get a dozen shots.
