PhotoHunt - revisited

Again Marianne spotted the deer visiting. They came into our neighbor's yard. They look like young ones who are foraging without mama deer. They stayed quite awhile, nibbling grass, checking out the tree and trying to decide if they could get over the fence to our yard. These shots were taken through my rear window. See Mariane's Project 365 for another shot.

PhotoHunt - Rear window views

From time to time I post the view(s) from my home office window, which gives me a view to the south from our house. Above is today's shot toward the southwest. Below is yesterday's view to the south east.

Sky Watch Friday - Full moon and clouds

This sequence of pictures of the full moon was taken on the night of September 15 between 10:00 and 10:30 PM EDT. I had gone out earlier to try to capture the harvest moon rising, but the clouds intervened, so no photos of a big, orange moon over the fields. The streaks in the second photo are the wingtip lights of a passenger jet headed for Baltimore.

I also want to plug another group of sky watchers who post a photo and explanation every day. I have enjoyed this site of a daily basis for several years. These photographers have much grander cameras then we do, although they sometimes use everyday cameras. The site is Astronomy Picture of the Day hosted by NASA with contributors from around the world. The following links will give you an idea of the breadth of photos posted on this site.

PhotoHunt - Road out of Yosemite

In 1990 we visited Yosemite National Park. On our last day, we drove across the High Sierra, exited the park to the east and continued on to Lake Tahoe. The above photo looks back toward the park from the Tioga Pass entrance (elevation 9,945 ft). The road down is on the right in the photo below.

Here the road is on the left, just below the shadows.

And another view with the mountains ahead.

Sky Watch Friday - Beautiful skies

Monday - Blue and white skies

We had beatiful skies all this week. The skies have announced that Fall is coming. Here are a few samples of what we have enjoyed.

Wednesday - Full moon at dawn

Wednesday - Southeastern sky at sunrise

Thursday - A boat in the sky?

For an explanation of this last one, see Thursday's post on my Project 365 blog.

PhotoHunt - Field of wild deer

Last March I spotted these deer in a pasture near where we recycle stuff. I believe that some of this herd are the ones we occasionally spot in the field behind our house.

Sky Watch Friday - Streak in the sky

On Tuesday Marianne and I were out with our cameras wandering around Frederick. While sitting on the patio of a restaurant having dinner, I noticed some nice cloud formations backlit by the late afternoon sun. As we were walking back to the car a bright white streak appeared overhead above the low fluffy clouds. First a plane and then some geese passed overhead. As we neared the car, the white streak and the lower clouds drifted apart. We both posted pics that day (Marianne's and mine) on our Project 365 blogs.

PhotoHunt - Marianne's string

Remember when you bought string by the spool? Marianne has used this spool of string for longer than we've been together (over 25 years). Doesn't get used much anymore, but occasionally she pulls it out. Scissors are of the same vintage!

Sky Watch Friday - Medical transport

As I was returning home last Saturday, I spotted a Maryland State Police helicopter coming towards me. It circled back and descended to a park. I also saw other emergency equipment with lights flashing in the park. There was an injury to one of the players in a youth football game. He was soon onboard and flying to further treatment. As there was no local news concerning the injury, I assume that he was okay after being checked at the hospital.
