Header Challenge - Historic district

During the early days of the US, settlers arrived at the ports of Philadelphia and Baltimore from Europe. To find land, they moved west into Pennsylvania, Maryland and south into the Shenandoah Valley. Many settled in the Frederick area and made significant contributions to the young nation. Francis Scott Key was one of them. He was born in the county and is buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

In the early 1700's German settlers began to move into this part of Maryland. (Land in Pennsylvania had become too expensive for new arrivals.) The Bruner family bought 303 acres and named it after their home region of Germany. The first house was wood, but in 1758 this stone house was built. In 1974, the house was purchased by the Fredrick County  Landmarks Foundation and is now a museum.

Header Challenge - Trees

I expected October to bring us some cool, sunny days and add brilliant reds and yellows to the thie part of Maryland. Instead we got the remnants of a Pacific hurricane. Nothing like folks in Mexico and western US got. My header is looking across the field behind our house. Our maple provided a spot of color and the oak gave some interesting shadows. The other tree and shadows was found near the pizza place in Frederick.

Header challenge - Selfies

I went out this afternoon and took some selfies in the late afternoon sun. The van windows made some of these reflected selfies so the camera got included.

Full sun in my face and below the camera in my face.

And a shadow selfie taken Monday

Header Challenge - Today

My header and images were taken Today (back on Oct 14) from our yard. While I was outside taking the images in this post, a hawk soared under the oak branches in our yard and perched in the neighbor's yard two houses down. The field behind us has turned golden, a few of our flowers are still blooming and the sky was a gorgeous blue with some white clouds.
