Our World - Colleen and Ron's wedding

This past weekend Marianne and I were delighted to attend the wedding of our niece Colleen.  This was a merging of two families and the wedding party included lots of family members. The wedding was held at Dorey Recreation Center near Richmond, VA where an old farm barn was turned into a very nice event center and the farm fields became sports fields. We are delighted for Colleen and Ron and the wedding was also a family reunion with our relatives and the delightful addition of Ron's family to the clan.

HeaderChallenge - Rain

Craver pick "Rain" as the theme this week and luckily we had a little rain last Friday. The shot above was taken Friday afternoon and my header that night. Then skies were clearing Saturday morning.

Our World - Blooming

We had a brief spurt of real spring weather (it's cool again today) and our trees and bushes responded with some delightful color.

Header Challenge - Headless squirrel

Tom's theme this week is "That's strange", and a headless squirrel certainly would be strange. What is not so strange is that said squirrel is faster than my shutter  finger! Here are a few other strange scenes seen recently around Frederick.

 Trimming the paved walk?

Outdoor plumbing?

Fire dancing?

 Bridge time piece?

And lastly, no squirrels were harmed in making this post. The tail in the header followed the squirrel to the top of the post to finish the acorn it found.

Our World - Color on the Creek part 1

The flood control project for Carroll Creek tamed the flow of water to the extent that it is now a breeding spot for algae during the summer months. The solution is to provide shade that will inhibit the algae. Last summer they tried a small water garden and the results were good. So this year 330 stands have been place in  the creek (50 more will be added). Last Saturday 780 plants in 260 pots were placed in the creek, including lilies, lotuses, irises, reeds, rush and cattail. I was told the plants should be blooming in about a month.  On May 18 120 tropical lilies will be planted. The project is funded primarily by donations to Color on the Creek and is being done by volunteer labor along with City of Frederick staff.

Header challenge - Look up

My life began looking up when this lady invited me to her house for a Fourth of July cookout a bunch of years ago! My header is Marianne looking up at the grandeur of Yosemite from the Merced River.
One of the sights you see when you look up from the floor of Yosemite.

Here are some scenes I looked up to snap last weekend in Frederick.

And finally, to tie this header post to Look Down, an upward look at Miss Liberty.

Our World - Stubby tailed squirrel

This stubby tailed squirrel has taken up residence in our neighborhood. Don't know how he lost the tail, but it does not seem to affect his climbing ability.
