Our World - Frederick Fair

We spent Thursday afternoon at the Frederick Fair. This calf was born about 30 minutes before we reached the birthing center. We watched as mom cleaned up her newborn and it worked to get on its legs and find its dinner. (These shots span about 20 minutes). There was also a litter of piglets and two young goats to see.

Lots to eat at the fair. We had some root beer and BBQ from a vendor further down the line.

Plenty of other prize winning farm produce on display. The largest of these pumpkins was about 200 pounds. Lots of farm machinery also, as well as hand made clothes, jams, jellies, pies, etc. The fair also features photographic exhibits, with hundreds of excellent shots.

Sky Watch - Clouds and planes

Monday afternoon, the clouds rolled in as the planes approached the Columbia, SC airport. Soon after the last photo, the rain came.

Our World - Christy's wedding

This weekend and we were delighted to participate in the wedding of our eldest granddaughter. It was a delightful event, with ceremony outside, followed by dinner and dancing. Congratulations to Christy and Brandon!

Our World - Stuffed peppers

Marianne is always on the lookout for new recipes as she strolls around the World Wide Web. Last week she made these Southwestern stuffed peppers. The stuffing is a mixture of rice, onion, black beans, salsa and taco seasoning. Add a little cheese and sour cream and serve with asparagus. Delicious!

Our World - Hot stock

Not the Wall Street kind, but chicken stock in the making. Marianne freezes the carcasses of whole chickens. Yesterday she put a bunch of chicken parts in the roaster along with celery, carrots and onions and let it cook all day. We will freeze the stock tomorrow in pints and half-pints. She will have stock for soups and casseroles all winter. (Sorry Swanson's, Marianne's is better!)
