Our World - Early snow

Friday night and Saturday brought us snow - not much, but it was mixed with freezing rain and sleet. The lilacs were bent over under the weight. In other areas of Maryland there were bad roads and trees down and power outages. In the northeast, the storm was much worse leaving many trees down and power outages.

PhotoHunt - Broken pottery

In our travels over the years, we picked up some southwestern pottery which was displayed on the long bookcase. Unfortunately, one of the cats also liked to explore and one of our favorites was broken. The pottery is packed away now, and Marianne has redecorated wuth a different motif

Sky Watch - Watcher in the sky

About a month ago we were in the yard doing the fall decorations on the porch when we heard the distinctive sound of the state police helicopter. It is not unusual to hear that sound, as we are not far from the Frederick airport where Trooper 3 is based. But it is unusual to hear it circling this low over the neighborhood. Apparently they were looking for someone as they flew a pattern back and forth. But they must not have found anything newsworthy, as no mention was found in the local paper.

Sky Watch - Return of the clouds

Last weekend we had blue skies and sunshine, then the rain returned, followed by a cloudy Thursday. What will Friday bring?

PhotoHunt - Public wood carving

This wood carver has appeared at the Frederick Oktoberfest every time we have attended. He and his partner do their work in public with chainsaws.

A sample of their work for sale. We have two of the jack-o-laterns from previous years and Marianne was tempted by the smaller one on the bench.

Sky Watch - Foggy sunrises

Last Friday and Saturday, the sun rose through the fog. The last few days the sun has not been able to pierce the clouds.

Our World - Colorfest

The town of Thurmont, Maryland held its 48-th Colorfest last weekend. Colorfest is a juried arts and crafts show with over 350 exhibiters. Exhibits are setup in the parks and fire department grounds. Food vendors abound and local businesses and residents also have their wares available. Fall, Halloween and Christmas items are among the craft items available for purchase. Paintings, jewelry, quilts, and photographs are also in abundance. We enjoyed our afternoon (and came home with a few seasonal items).

Sky Watch - Another sunset

Two weeks ago I went to pickup some Chinese food from our local restaurant. A very overcast day was showing some light along the top of the mountain and I took the shot above. As I left with our dinner, a big ball of fire appeared. By the time I walked to the car and grabbed my camera the image below was all that remained and the sun quickly disappeared.
