Odd Shots - Side ways snow

On which side of the light does your snow fall? Ours was blowing against the east side. We had about two feet of the white stuff so this week is "snow week" on my blogs.

Odd Shots - Lonely icicle

As the sun melted the snow on our mailbox, one single icicle formed and yes it did not hang straight down.

Odd shots - Broken wheel?

This old wagon has been here like this for several years. The field has been planted and harvested around it.

Odd shots - Scooter and reindeer

Continuing my cat theme: I was searching for a particular, 20-some-year-old, photo and happened upon this one of Scooter. He loved to sleep atop the TV and one Christmas we received this reindeer from my middle daughter. Naturally, Scooter thought it was his play toy. As I recall we had to move the TV to keep him from pulling the reindeer down.

Odd shots - Where's dinner?

That the cats wanting food is not the odd part of this picture. What is odd is that Zoey (on the right) is waiting patiently - usually she is pacing and yowling at my ankles.

Odd shots - Out on a limb

On New Year's Day I glanced out my window to see this odd sight. One of the neighbor's cats was high up in our dogwood; one squirrel was on the ground and another on the fence post. A moment later, the squirrel on the post was up high taunting the cat. After a few minutes, the disappointed stalker climbed down and walked away.

Odd shots - Where's the water?

Build a snow squirrel? Find a nut? This guy had other places to go, so away he went.

Odd Shots - Snow cavern?

At first glance saturday night, I though I had a broken window and a car full of snow. Not so - just an odd way the snow fell off the side of our van.

Odd Shots - High storage

Construction companies have found an odd place to store ladders and tools after work. Not many people will try to get into this storage shed.

Odd shots - Umbrella by the road

We had several windy, rainy days last week, but on Thursday morning, this was the odd scene across the street. Kids wait for the school bus on the corner, so I guessed one of them left it when the sun came out. Later it blew into the street and I rescued it, closed it and left it on a rock for its owner. Noticed it up in the yard late Friday with snow coming so I rescued it again and now will knock on a few doors to find the owner.

Odd Shots - Big wheels in the road

What's odd about this machine is that it is the first of this make and model I have seen. With lots of farms in Frederick County, manure spreaders traveling from barn to field are a common sight.

Odd shots - Z's

The owner of this car was either last in line or paid extra to get an unforgettable license plate. (I hope it does not mean "asleep at the wheel!")

Odd shots - Web and wire . . .

. . . but no spider. The weekend of wind and rain must have chased them away.

Odd shots - What did you say?

Buster probably wants Maxine to move so he can take a nap. A more typical view of this pair is here.

Odd Shots - Blue bird of Halloween

Have you seen the blue bird of Halloween? One shows up around here in October and is gone by Thanksgiving (I think the large turkey that flies in mid November scares him away.) The blue bird roosts in the happy tree and feeds on pumpkin seeds.

Odd Shots - A pair from Colorfest

I spotted thes two oddities at Colorfest in nearby Thurmont. I did not try the fried Snickers and I had enough cash so I did not use this mobile bank.

Odd Shots - Lonely bike

At the fall festival I attended, this was the only two-wheeled vehicle present. It looked odd by itself among all the older red farm tractors. The Maryland International Harvester Collectors club was also present in force at the festival.

Odd shots - Wooden dollars

At the Oktoberfest, wooden tokens were used to buy food and beer. The craft vendors accepted US $ and/or credit cards.

Odd shots - Looong and short

I shot these two autos in downtown Frederick the first Saturday of September. Which would you rather parallel park?

Odd Shots - Fair money

I expect to see Automatic Teller Machines (ATM) in banks and businesses, but they are also at the Great Frederick Fair. And with all there is to do at the fair, I expect this ATM gets used often.
