Sky Watch - Up, up and away

Two weeks ago I spotted a large flock of Canada geese on the water and stopped to take a few shots. As I was shooting, a good many took flight and headed south over the bridge to my left. Two minutes later the rest took flight toward the setting sun and circled back to follow the others. More shots of the geese here.

Our World - Canada geese

We have a good many Canada geese in Maryland year round, but the numbers go up in the fall. I heard the geese when I was at Wal-Mart  last Saturday and walked over to the edge of the hold pond to see them. There were several hundred on the water. They began to depart in small groups of 8 to 10; then a large number left together.

On Sunday they were back on the playing fields adjacent to water shown above. I went down to the parking area by the fields to get a closer shot, but when they saw the camera, they turned and waddled away.

My World Tuesday - Visitors from Canada

This weekend we had lots of Canada geese fly by, sometimes settling in the field for the night. Saturday afernoon two flocks appeared, honking and circling. The flock above flew off to the west while the smaller flock landed in a nearby field. (More photos on Lew's Pics.) Then Sunday with the sun low in the sky, the small flock (about 180) returned to the field behind or house.

Monday brought the large flock of over 300 back to settle in for the night. Note the geese already in the field as more approach. Finally they all settled in for the night.
