Sky Watch - Rainbow, rain, bright, dark

Our skies have been varied this spring with storms often blowing past, though not as ferocious as the ones across the southern US. Tuesday afternoon, the sun popped out and I went out to get shots of the clearing sky. As I took the above shot a gentle rain began to fall and I was pleased to get a faint rainbow. The next shot was taken of the rain with "sports" setting and the third with "auto" (click to enlarge). The last two shots were taken Wednesday afternoon about 2 hours apart.

My World Tuesday - Wet

We had another storm come slowly up the coast this weekend, dropping a couple of inches of water on the ground saturated by the melting snow. Saturday night 45 roads were reported closed due to high water and a video clip (first seen on NBC4) made NBC Nightly News Saturday. The creek behind us floods regularly and years ago closed the road that can be seen. The state built a new bridge and raised the road and it has not been closed since.

Carroll Creek in the City of Frederick is the top of its banks, but the flood control project takes the excess water through underground culverts through downtown. The entrance to the culverts is to the right in this view.

Above is Carroll Creek flooding farmland down stream from the city, near where it empties into the Monocacy River. The poles in the water are the fences that line the private road to the farm on the far hill. Below is the Monocacy. The river is normally not visible here as its course is beyond the line of trees.

My World Tuesday - Wet

The first three months of this year were drier than normal, but April and May have been wet. These shots were taken last Friday as I made a trip to the orchard to buy some strawberries. The clouds were coming over Cotoctin Mountain as I stopped at the orchard. And as I left the rain was coming down.

Near home, the rain was approaching and here is the scene from our porch a short time later.

My World Tuesday - Wet and blooming

It has rained for several days, delaying our plans to get the rest of our new plants in pots and the ground. (And the grass is growing high.) But the azaleas and rhododendron are now blooming. And Marianne's new froggy friend loves the rain!
