Sky Watch - Contrails

Last Friday was a cool, crisp day with clearing skies in the west and clouds in the east. The combination made for contrails all day. The first three shots were at 9:30 AM; the fourth at 4:45 PM and the last at 5:11 PM. The planes were heading west or southwest from Baltimore's airport.

  1. You forget how busy it gets in the sky until you have these crisp days with the evidence of airplane traffic.

  2. Hey...I am so proud of myself....I remembered the white in the sky are contrails and NOT jet streams. It took 72 years to get that one straight. Your captures of them is super. They each seem to have a life of its own. Beautiful photos. genie

  7. Interesting photos, and I've finally found the word I've been looking for all day. Contrails. Now all I have to do is to remember it.

    Have a nice weekend =)

  9. Amazing how many planes traverse the airways.
I remember right after 9-11 when the planes in the USA were grounded, that I looked in the sky and for the first time that I can EVER remember, I saw zero...none of these. That was an eerie sight for me.
    Beautiful shots....as always.
    Hugs,
