Around here you never know what winter will bring, sometimes mild, sometimes cold, sometimes not much snow and other times a lot. On Valentine's day 2007, we got snow. The squirrels really had to dig to find an acorn.
And two days later, the sun was out and the snow still covered this farm near the Potomac River.
Four days later, the snow was piled high in parking lots.
And only a corner of the lake was thawed for the ducks and geese,
while the rest of the lake was snow covered ice.
And then a week later, more snow came from the sky. leaving us a white, winter wonderland.
You have shared some beautiful winter scenes that could have been taken in my state last week when we had 3 snowstorms and temps single digits. I'm happy to say the snow and ice has begun to thaw, but I'm sure there will be more snow in forecast to come.
It seems to me I remember the worst snow in the DC area being around president's day. I doubt if the squirrels care about the date - glad I don't have to dig through snow for my supper.
Those are beautiful winter shots. We are similar in the winter although generally milder than in Maryland. We are having bizarre weather right now. Early last week we had a little snow and a very cold week and this weekend it got up to 70. Too weird.
Shadows of the fence on snow were quite amazing.
ReplyDeleteI hope the squirrels were able to find some acorn. Looks like very cold out there. Beautiful winter pictures though:)

Lew,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed these. The deep shadows of the fence were very pleasing. The ducks on the water really caught my eye, too.
You describe the weather perfectly.
Quite nice photos of winter scenes. I really like the fences with shadows on the snow. Cold but still inviting.
